The Associate Brief

A weekly newsletter for those about to start their first role in consulting.

The first email lands the first week of June.

I spent the first seven years of my career at McKinsey, starting as a Business Analyst in 2017, working across two offices and ten countries, before leaving in 2024 for a short stint in banking followed by launching an independent advisory firm focused on financial advisory practices.

What I enjoyed most at McKinsey was coaching the analysts and associates on my teams, especially the ones who were just starting out. Done well, your first year can set you up for a great career in consulting and beyond.

At a time when so much is being said about the reinvention of the junior consultant's role, the fundamentals and the expectations remain the same. This newsletter is my attempt at sharing my thoughts on those fundamentals with a group of folks about to go into their day one. It is also an attempt at gathering all of my scattered "I wish someone had told me about this" learnings in a polished format.

If you're preparing to start your career in the fall, sign up below. You'll get a weekly email with the same 1:1 advice I used to give the folks on my teams, and that I wish someone had given me as I was anxiously flying to my first client engagement ten years ago.
